Thanks to John William Newport for sending us the following comments about the area after seeing this photograph on our website:
“I used to live, from 1948 until 1962, at No. 11, the Wharfage, Ironbridge and my parents remained there for several years after. Our house is shown in the 1925 picture of the Severn in flood – it’s just to the left of centre. There’s a flooded building with a very large white sign attached but I can’t read what it says. To its left is a much larger building with two pitched roofs and to the left of that is a small single storey shop. Sandwiched between these, was our house – the two white-painted tops of the brick gate posts can be seen.”
